ABOUT

 High Meadow Farm

A small flock of Valais sheep in the rolling green hills of Tennessee are what you'll see at High Meadow Farm. We are part of the exciting Valais breed-up program and follow a successful protocol to establish Valais in America by faithfully keeping Swiss breed standards. Keeping these standards enables us to qualify as Gold Star Breeders, producing quality Valais sheep that are highly sought after.

We began our program in 2018 with the purchase of 5 Scottish Blackface ewes as our foundation flock. Scottish Blackface are a hardy, parasite-resistant breed, with good feet and great mothering abilities. In addition, their size, horns, and wool readily qualify them as Valais foundation stock.

In 2019 we artificially inseminated our foundation ewes with imported genetics from the Dutch-bred Valais ram, Solwaybank Commander, from the United Kingdom. Commander, who has produced maximum points lambs, brought a strong, solid frame and straight legs to our F1 lambs which is important when establishing a correct flock.

In 2020 we bred again for more F1’s, using genetics from Highland Danny, who brings the magnificent King Kong bloodlines to our flock. We also bred our Commander F1 ewes with Stratheden Alexander genetics, imported from New Zealand, bringing more Maximum Points bloodlines to the flock.

Since then we have imported the genetics of Heartland Baggins, Highland Hamilton, and VSR Kismet, each of them bringing maximum points bloodlines to our flock.

This year, 2024, we purchased Highland Knight, a purebred ram, bred by one of the best breeders in the United Kingdom. Knight carries maximum points bloodlines thoughout his pedigree and we are very excited to see the lambs he will produce for us. With his genetics we hope to produce our first breed-up purebred in 2025.

Our goal is to continue the careful breeding process to develop purebred Valais Blacknose Sheep that meet Swiss breed standards and are easily recognizable as the cutest sheep in the world!
